VMY Juvenile Detention Outreach Masses - October 7, 2007

Once a month VMY members and volunteers from our local catholic community visit those imprisoned in the Santa Clara County Juvenile Detention Facility, in downtown San Jose. During this visit we lead musical worship, prayers, and facilitate readings during a Sunday morning Mass. We also strive to provide a welcoming and accepting environment in which these inmates may find a sanctuary for payer, a place to grieve, and the unconditional love of God. This love we celebrate with them, bringing them hope and peace in the Mass and by being present to them in their need..
Below is the schedule of visits for the remainder of 2007. We welcome new volunteers and co-workers in this very important ministry. Come share the love of God with those who may find it hard to believe and hard to hope.
October 7 November 4 December 2
Volunteers must be practicing and active Catholics (for VMY Detention Ministry) and 21 years of age or older. The volunteer preparation process takes a few weeks to a month to complete, so if you are interested in volunteering please promptly contact Perrin Brady (650) 949-8919. Remember the words of Jesus in the gospel, "whatever you did to the least of these brothers, you did it to me..." -Matt. 25
God Walk VMY - August 4 - 12, 2007
This summer the Vincentian Marian Youth Association, Province of the West, is sponsoring an exciting adventure in love and service. This is a pilgrimage spanning five days, August 8th through 12th, walking on foot between locations in Oakland and San Francisco, where we will be serving the community in various ways including working at homeless shelters, soup kitchens, visiting the elderly, cleaning parks and more. It’s an adventure into the heart of being a disciple of Jesus Christ in the Vincentian spirit. Together we will learn how to more deeply love our brothers and sisters, and how to more concretely love our Lord Jesus Christ by serving his poor. Click on the image below to view our current flyer! VMY Spirit of Service, Handicapables - May 26, 2007
These Spirit of Service (SoS) events are open to Youth and Young Adults ages 14-35. The Handicapables event will be hosted at Seton Provincialate, where the VMY Offices are located, and the Provincial Offices of the Daughters of Charity. It is co-sponsored by Catholic Charities, an organization that operates the Handicapables Program for those usually home bound or bound to a wheelchair, giving them entertaining and enriching outings to brighten their spirits, and to connect them to the community! VMY will be "entertaining angels" with music, skits, comedy, crafts, BBQ and a light stroll around the lake and garden, culminating in a closing prayer service and farewell. This is a very exciting event and will bring a lot of joy, enrichment and a great escape to these the Handicapables! After our service we will have a chance to pray, share and learn more about the Vincentian tradition and VMY. RSVP to Perrin Brady to participate: (650) 949-8919.

Taize: Promise - December 8, 2006
During this hectic time of year, as we prepare for the Holiday Season, we can often get so caught up in the hustle and bustle that we forget what is Holy about the Holiday. Taize is an excellent opportunity to recapture a moment of tranquility and center ourselves on the truly sacred in our midst - the coming of Emmanuel - the poor child Jesus.
VMY, in collaboration with Pray 4 Fun from St. Patrick's Parish in San Jose, will be hosting an evening of Taize Prayer at the Daughters of Charity Provincialate Chapel from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Join us as we renew our promise and encounter God's promise to us, fulfilled in the coming of the child Jesus.
UPDATE: Many prayerful worshippers, VMY members and Daughters of Charity joined us in our first Taize prayer night. It was a wonderful experience of prayer and fellowship as we shared a common meal after Taize. We look forward to the opportunity to hold another Taize night in the future.
Commissioning and Marian Consecration Mass - November 12, 2006
On November 12, 2006, a group of about 30 youth leaders will celebrate the Eucharist at the Seton Provincialate in Los Altos Hills. During Mass, these youths will be commissioned to officially be part of the Vincentian Marian Youth Association of the Province of the West. Also, a few youth leaders will consecrate their lives to Mother Mary during the celebration. What a joyful event.
Please pray for the youth leaders and all involved that they continue to carry out God's message of love through Mother Mary.
UPDATE: More than 25 youth and a few Daughters of Charity celebrated the Eucharist with Father Hung Nguyen, OFM, as the presider.
Four youth leaders consecrated their lives to Mother Mary. After the celebration of Mass, everyone shared a simple meal of bread and soup, to commemorate how Saint Vincent Depaul first helped the faceless poor by wandering the streets of Paris to serve bread and soup.

Reflection from Janine
On November 12, 2006, members of the Junior Apostolates for Christ were commissioned to the Vincentian Marian Youth Association. Along with the commissioning for the JAC members, there were four young adults that consecrated their lives to Jesus and Mary. I was one of the four young adults that experienced an amazing transformation that day. When we were reciting the consecration to Jesus with Mary, I began to feel very moved and touched by the prayer we were saying. The part of the prayer that really touched my soul was when I recited that I want to DISCOVER you, FOLLOW you, LOVE you and OFFER myself.
During the presentation of the medals, I was even more touched. As Sr. Catarina put the medal around my neck and as Fr. Hung recited the blessing, I began to feel very emotional and started to cry. I didn’t know why I started to cry but I finally realized that it was Jesus’ and Mary’s love that was penetrating through my whole being as this was happening. The days following the consecration were different for me because I felt like a totally different person. Consecrating my life to Jesus and Mary was an amazing experience that I will never forget!
-Janine

Celebration: The Feast of St. Vincent de Paul - September 23, 2006

The Catholic Church celebrates Saint Vincent de Paul Feast Day on Sept. 27. The Vincentian Family chose this day as a "Day of Prayers" with the theme being "Love Is Infinitely Inventive".
Prayer of the Vincentian Family
Lord Jesus, you who willed to become poor,
give us eyes and a heart directed toward the poor;
help us to recognize you in them —
in their thirst, their hunger, their loneliness, and their misfortune.
Enkindle within our Vincentian Family unity, simplicity, humility
and the fire of love than burned in St. Vincent de Paul.
Strengthen us, so that, faithful to the practice of these virtues,
we may contemplate you and serve you in the person of the poor,
and may one day be united with you and them in your Kingdom. Amen.
Beside uniting with the Vincentian Family on our Day of Prayers, VMY Province of the West will also serve under-privileged children. VMY invites youth and young adults who would like to spend a day with the children to enjoy each other's company, to laugh together, and to share memorable moments.
"Let the little children alone, and do not stop them coming to me; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs." - Matthew 19:14-15
